Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
