Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Jennifer Lawrence

In a recent interview, the Oscar winner reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on voter decisions.”

She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Past Statements

In 2015, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

The star was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.

“The second term seems distinct,” commented Lawrence about his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, the filmmaker’s project in which she stars as a new mother who deals with her mental health in rural Montana. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, the star commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s terrible.”

Wider Issues

Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

She sought to redirect outrage about the situation to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration supported by numerous arts community members to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her performance in Die, My Love. Although Ramsay has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence said that she connected with aspects of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “imagining every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Career Moments

Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
